Where, Why, What” Series #23: The “What”: Affirm to Confirm

“Nothing is impossible. The word itself says ‘I’m possible!’”

– Audrey Hepburn

Rene’ Descartes once said, “I think, therefore I am.” It’s a powerful yet simple statement with a powerful yet simple truth. On your road to your “Where”, it’s extremely important to watch what you say about yourself. Your goals and dreams are all internal desires. Our lives are manifestations of our internal communication with ourselves. There’s a proverb that says, “above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Your affirmations or the things that you say about yourself, are what confirm the life you want to live. I’m going to say it one more time, what you say about yourself shapes your life, lifestyle, and the lives of the people around you. So now the question is, what are you saying about yourself? What are your internal conversations?

I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to say it again and again. It’s important to be intentional in your everyday life. However, it’s extremely easy to be unintentional. Self-awareness is being aware of self yet, we often let our thoughts consume us and not the other way around. Being aware of our thoughts can be a learned behavior if you take the time to be conscious of them. That means asking yourself questions and being honest with yourself. Questions like, where did that thought come from and why is that even a thought? I’ve found myself thinking of those questions many times in the course of learning how to affirm the life I want to live. I had to learn the hacking techniques that we discussed earlier in the blog. I also had to unlearn thought processes that weren’t always conducive to the growth I wanted to see.

One of the key things that I learned about affirmations that made them so powerful for me is that they are always present, in the moment. You see, the universe and your subconscious always work in the now. I told you earlier in this blog series that the brain doesn’t differentiate between fact and fiction. Well, the subconscious brain doesn’t differentiate in time. To the subconscious brain, time always “is”. Simply put, to your brain the time is now.

That’s why affirmations are always present. Time is always present. Right now in this current moment, there is no tomorrow, there is no yesterday there is only now. Therefore, you are, (you fill in the blank). Your life is currently a result and reflection of whatever conversations you’ve had with yourself. In some cases, it’s conversations that you’ve had with yourself and the input of others. However, it’s always the internal dialogues that output the internal pictures that you paint.

I’ve heard it said, the two most powerful words in the world are the words “I Am”. The “I” is like the number one. Every number in the world is a variation of the number one. When you lead with the “I” you become the only person in your world. Nothing and no one else exists in the “I” because everything in the world is in the “I”. So when you say, “I Am” you are affirming that you’re the absolute definition of what you “are” and confirming to the universe that you “are” that thing. Thus kicking off a series of events that lead to the manifestation of the “I Am”. That’s what Moses meant when he said, “I Am, that, I Am.” Or, in the words of the rapper Eminem, “I am, whatever I say I am. If I wasn’t then why would I say I am.”

There’s a scripture that reads, “let the weak say, I Am Strong.” Whatever you’re aspiring to be, be inspired by the conversations that you’re having with yourself. You’re the author of your story. In closing, I’ll leave you with a personal affirmation of mine. “I am healthy, wealthy, and wise. With a multimillionaire mind and lifestyle.”

There is a short yet dope book called, “The Message of the Master”. My friend Mike Shelton suggested that book to me years ago. He said, Chris, it’ll take a day to read and a lifetime to understand it. Now I understand why he told me that. If the lifestyle you want to live is going to be any different from the life you have now, you going to have to be what you’re becoming every single day of your life.

Until next week my friend. I look forward to jumping back into the “What” of things with you.
